Although one thing I do like about online is how Y-Comm presents the players as a form of community but what I don't like is how slow Y-Comm is in updating the game. It is virtually impossible to beat 5-star Dynamax Raids solo. For 5-star battles, you need a team of actual people or you will absolutely fail before you can even whittle down the D-MAX's Pokemon's health to half. making a party with actual people as opposed to AI is not easy. Online multiplayer and dynamax is great, moving on. They feel more like a bunch of zones from an MMORPG stapled together hastily as opposed to something like Sun & Moon where the small islands are packing so many secrets naturally, for example near the end of the first island, you see a cave in a great far distance and wonder, how do I get there? That feeling of vastness and exploration isn't in SwSh, at least for me.Īnd then we got online multiplayer and dynamax. I am fine with this but my problem is, I don't know why but the routes and cities altogether don't feel like they are naturally one location next to each other. The game's routes altogether feel even smaller than XY and many before SwSh have claimed XY to be the shortest Pokemon game ever. It is beautiful but again, that aesthetic is crushed as you explore. Could you imagine this being applied to Diamond & Pearl's cities just so DPPt remakes can make it in time for the deadlines?

Having experienced how rushed SwSh's cities feel, I'm honestly pretty concern about not only future 3D main series games but also remakes. However I think for most people, the worst offender could be Spikemuth where the only building you can visit is the Pokemon Center. This isn't like Castelia City where you can go there. You want to go there, experience that part of the city but you can't. Standing outside of the Battle Tower in Wyndon, you see this gorgeous skyline of city buildings during the night that reminds you of Saffron, Goldenrod and Castelia.

I think however the most disappointing city is without a doubt Wyndon which is the biggest city of Sword & Shield and yet it feels like the smallest city out of not only the Pokemon games but also all of the SwSh cities.

You know Motostoke that has often been advertised with that big clock tower? You can't go there, in fact it's practically almost never seen when you visit there that I can't even remember if I saw it in a cutscene. The massive cities, although beautiful on the outside, feel incredibly smaller than any other Pokemon game's cities once you start exploring because you can't enter most doors or locations you see, they are just these inaccessible walls mocking you. You know how in BW2, there are so many amazing locations you can thoroughly explore but at the beginning of the game, you see this mountain in the distance that says "Ha ha! You can't explore the northern part of western Unova!" Imagine that only for every city you visit in SwSh. Anyone who has experienced the little details of the Pokemon games, at the very least SM, can tell this game is rushed.Īnd then there are the cities themselves. Why are they gone? Because this game is definitely rushed. The beautiful city battle backgrounds founded in SM/USUM and Let's Go are gone. So with that being said, why do I call this a good game? Not an outstanding game? From someone whose played the series since Gen 2, this game is rushed in ways that it puzzles me how GameFreak was even able to deliver a workable product by the holiday season. After much discussion, the following conclusion was reached: shinies acquired via "chains" - that is, battling the same Pokemon over and over again to increase your odds - will have squares, whereas shinies acquired through breeding will have stars.we got the very best where the quality reaches insane levels that fans can't possibly hope to ever see this immeasurably gaming goodness ever again in their entire lifetime. However, that same dataminer's information was further detailed in the Reddit thread. If you really wanted that shiny Wooloo, your best bet is to keep battling Wooloo until one spawns (unless, of course, you get tremendously lucky). But what's the difference?įirst, points out the above table in a tweet which shows that your chances of getting a shiny go up as you battle the same Pokemon. The most obvious difference is the particle effects on the Pokemon's animated background image: one type has stars, and the other has squares. The differences between "star-type" and "square-type" shiny Pokemon are highlighted in a submission on the /r/PokemonSwordAndShield subreddit.
